Where 1-5 hag been coded check back on Qns. 2-8 and 9 in the Present Acconunodation
section and, if any room is sublet or shared. codes 1-5 can not apply. If this has
happened DELETE the precede and recode as 7 (unless evidence= a lift, in which caae
recode 6 ).
Blanks should be checked against other information on the schedule in case they can
be made good. If not, leave blank.
Recode ‘other’ answers if possible, if not, leave in O (no need to specify) .

residential pur~se$. If so check back to Present Accommodation Qn . 1 and make
sure that the date coded there is that of the original building, not of the
conversion.
Code 1 includes cases where the accrmunodation is linked by a garage only.
BtuIgalowS, including prefabs should be treated as a whole house and coded 1, z
or 3.
Lifts used for transporting goods should bs excluded.
Farms should be coded as follows, if the interviewer has msde notes.
If outbuildings are attached or some rooms are used for business purposes use

Code 8 does not apply to ordinary living acccsamodation w%ich happsns to be used
for business purposes eg a room used as an office. Nor does it apply when the
business prsmises have no connection with any member of the household’s
occupation. Refer doubtful cases to S/V.
code 8 covers those places where there is access between the private and
business psrts without going outside the building.
