ORGANISATIONAL MATTERS<br />
IV.1 ORGANISATION<br />
IV.1.1 During the year 2011-12, <strong>IRDA</strong> forged ahead<br />
towards the tasks before it under the guidance and<br />
chairmanship of Shri J Hari Narayan. The year saw<br />
Dr. R Kannan, Member (Actuary) demit offi ce after<br />
completion of his tenure on 1 st June, 2011. Shri G<br />
Prabhakara, Member (Life) demitted office after<br />
completion of his tenure on 14 th December, 2011. Shri<br />
S Roy Choudhury joined the Authority as Member (Life)<br />
on 28 th March, 2012. Prior to joining the Authority, Shri<br />
S Roy Choudhury served in Life Insurance Corporation<br />
of India as Executive Director (Marketing & Product<br />
Development). Shri M Ramaprasad and Shri R K Nair<br />
continued as Whole Time Members of <strong>IRDA</strong> during the<br />
year.<br />
IV.1.2 Shri Arvind Kumar, Joint Secretary, Ministry<br />
of Finance was inducted as Part Time Member with<br />
effect from 18 th August, 2011 in place of Smt. L M Vas,<br />
Additional Secretary, Ministry of Finance. Shri<br />
Jaydeep Narendra Shah, President, Institute of<br />
Chartered Accountants of India, became part-time<br />
Member with effect from 12 th February, 2012, in place<br />
of Shri G Ramaswamy. Smt. Ela R Bhatt, Founder of<br />
Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA)<br />
demitted offi ce on 27 th February, 2012. Prof. V K<br />
Gupta, Director, Management Development Institute,<br />
Gurgaon continues to be a part-time Member.<br />
IV.2 MEETINGS OF THE AUTHORITY<br />
IV.2.1 Four meetings of the Authority were held during<br />
the financial year 2011-12. <strong>IRDA</strong> also held one meeting<br />
of the Insurance Advisory Committee (IAC) during the<br />
year under review.<br />
IV.3 HUMAN RESOURCES<br />
IV.3.1 The Authority reviews regularly the capacity<br />
available and the need for additional resources from<br />
time to time. In the process, Authority has recruited 19<br />
Assistant Directors, 7 Deputy Directors, 2 Joint<br />
Directors and 1 Senior Joint Director during the year<br />
2011- 12.<br />
IV.3.2 The Authority, in conjunction with Government<br />
of Andhra Pradesh, has set up Institute of Insurance<br />
and Risk Management (IIRM) at Hyderabad in 2002.<br />
The functioning of IIRM is overseen by the Board of<br />
Directors headed by the Chairman, <strong>IRDA</strong>.<br />
IV.4 PROMOTION OF OFFICIAL LANGUAGE<br />
IV.4.1 Offi cial Language Implementation Department<br />
continued to explore creative ideas for implementation<br />
of constitutional provisions of Offi cial Language; to<br />
implement the Official Language Policy of the<br />
Government of India; and to promote use of Hindi in<br />
the headquarters as well as in the subordinate offi ces.<br />
Employees are encouraged to use Hindi Language for<br />
replying to the letters and conduct in-house meetings<br />
in Hindi and to sign the documents in Hindi, etc.<br />
IV.4.2 Consumer Affairs Department launched a new<br />
website www.policyholder.gov.in for public / policyholder<br />
education having reference material in English, Hindi<br />
and other major languages. All major notifi cations<br />
which are related to public interest are published on<br />
<strong>IRDA</strong> website in bilingual form. <strong>IRDA</strong>’s monthly Journal<br />
has a separate Hindi Section. All offi cial claim forms<br />
and Annual Confi dential Report of employees are<br />
provided in bilingual form on intranet. Important<br />
Notifi cations, Circulars, Orders, Administrative and<br />
Other Reports, Annual Reports, Press Communiqués,<br />
Licenses, Contract, Agreements and Official Papers<br />
are also converted into bilingual form. All Hindi RTIs<br />
or letters in Hindi received by the Authority are replied<br />
in Hindi language only.<br />
IV.4.3 The Authority celebrated Hindi fortnight from 14 th<br />
September, 2011 to 30 th September, 2011. Various<br />
competitions and activities were organized for the<br />
employees of the Authority to encourage in acquiring<br />
the knowledge and profi ciency in Hindi and increased<br />
usage of Hindi in the day-to-day offi ce work.<br />
