TEN GOOD MEN 159between good and evil. But, like their forebears 2,000 years ago, they are wandering around aimlessly, unable to find that location designated as “x” on the map. They are looking for a treasure in the wrongplace and in the wrong manner. One wonders how this can be, since the signs are clearly visible, and thegreat battle is raging around them so loudly that even the deaf should be able to hear it. The only viableexplanation for this sense of spiritual myopia is that its roots lie in sentiments of self-absorption that havepermeated much of Christianity today. One must assume that the same toxins which have all but destroyedWestern Civilization have found their way into Christian thinking as well, and that as a result the samenarcissism which afflicts the secular world can also be found in the religious. In such a mindset, today’sapocalyptically concerned Christians who are awaiting the much prophesized hell-on-earth to arrive areunable to recognize that it is already here, and the apparent blindness to this reality reveals itself in howthey today view the suffering of others. Within this context, the mindset of such an ideology operatesunder the assumption that since such tribulations haven’t yet happened to them, that therefore they donot yet exist, and in the process they fail to appreciate the fact that it is happening to others. The tragedyof the situation is that this symptom is by no means the only aspect of what afflicts Christianity today, forin addition to going about their lives carelessly as others are suffering a veritable hell on earth, as wellChristians have bought into an idea that once that hell does arrive for them, they will suffer little ifanything from it.From just about every corner of what encompasses Christianity, individuals can be found who haveembraced fantastic ideas concerning what the tribulations about to befall the world are and how theythemselves will be dealing with it. Whether such thinking is found in the idea of the “rapture” (as embracedby Christian Zionists and mainstream Protestantism) or whether it is envisioned as the “three days ofdarkness” (as embraced by much of Catholicism) the common theme found in both is one of dispensationfrom what are sure to be the horrible aspects of divine punishment. Again, one must assume that thismindset is also the product of the same narcissistic tendencies which have afflicted the secular institutionsof the West, for in this case as well as in the former, a Christianity which has grown soft and weak onluxury and comfort seems to be unable to bear the thought of suffering for the faith as the forefathers did.And so, like one biblical writer once wrote, there is nothing new under the sun, and in the same way that thefollowers of the carpenter from Nazareth formulated unrealistic expectations concerning the loomingconfrontation in 33 AD, so too have today’s disciples done the same. And, likewise, as the disciples of2,000 years ago could be found hiding behind locked doors for fear of what might happen to them fortheir faith, so too can be found the adherents of Christianity today, and no better example for this mindsetexists than in the way in which the Christian world deals with the situation concerning Israel and herposition in the Middle East conflict. One would think that the conservative Christians who consider themselves a part of the avant garde tothe secular onslaught against their faith would be a little more skeptical about the information concerningthe Middle East situation, and in particular that information concerning what occurred on 9/11. For atleast the last decade, these same conservative Christians accepted as dogma the idea that an agendaexisted to destroy the Christian faith, an agenda realized through the cooperation of organized forces inthe government and media who couldn’t be trusted to tell the truth, even if a fortune was to be made bydoing so. Unfortunately for them (and for those who must suffer from the Zionist agenda which has beenaided by apocalyptically minded Christians) no such skepticism took place, and has yet to occur. Thesesame individuals who have sat for decades now with clenched fists and grinding teeth at the attacks ontheir Christian values never exhibited an ounce of healthy doubt when the same Zionist run mediaresponsible for attacking those values put all the pieces of this apocalyptic puzzle together for them in aneat, tidy package blaming the Muslims. Whether this example of uncritical acceptance of blatantpropaganda can be attributed to sheer stupidity, intellectual laziness or a mixture of the two is up fordebate. The fact is though, that they, by virtue of the manner in which they have taken the bait laid out
160TEN GOOD MENbefore them, have demonstrated by such to be completely unprepared for the war of the soul that isquickly approaching. A better-trained, more dedicated soldier of the faith would recognize that anyinformation given freely by the enemy could not be trusted, and that only a fool would accept it.Furthermore, if these apocalyptically minded Christians had done a more thorough reading of thewarnings that were issued to them by their commander-in-chief, they would have known better than tohave allowed themselves to be captured by the enemy in such a disgraceful manner.“Watch out for false prophets, who come to you in sheep’s clothing, but inwardly are ravenous wolves...By theirfruits you will know them.” Matthew 7:15If ever there was an era in which the ugly fruits of false prophecy were on full display, then clearly nobetter example of this exists than in the poisonous doctrine of Christian Zionism that has so effectivelycaptured a large portion of the Christian world today. These ugly fruits are now openly visible in thepresent war going on in Afghanistan and Iraq, as well as in the murder of the Palestinian peoples by thedevilish disciples of Marxist Zionism over the course of the last 80 years. And while there may be thosein the Christian world who have not greedily gulped down the maddening wine of Christian Zionism, nevertheless there are those who have sipped from that poisoned chalice, as evidenced in the mannerwith which they choose to deal with the question of Israel’s past, present, and future. With respect to the suffering of those peoples in the region who have witnessed first hand what is theApocalypse of Marxist Zionism, the callous unconcern for such suffering has become one of modern dayChristianity’s defining characteristics. By such behavior, today’s Christians have become the same priestand Levite in the parable who, after witnessing the plight of him who had been beaten and robbed, continued uninterrupted in their walk without the slightest trace of compassion or concern. In like manner,as the peoples of the Middle East have been beaten and robbed by the thuggery of Marxist Zionism, the“religious” members of the Christian community have barely glanced in their direction at what is thepitiable state of their fellow man. By such actions, modern day Christians who are party to this havedemonstrated what has become their contempt for the rules of justice and charity towards the least oftheir brethren in the Middle East. Again, the roots of this can be traced to the narcissism which afflictsmuch of Christianity today, exactly in the same way that it afflicted the priest and the Levite whose livesand interests were of such importance that not even coming to the aid of a dying man would divert ordistract them. Those individuals who would defend their complacency with the argument that theyhave not taken any sides with regards to the situation in the Middle East should realize that they aremerely suffering from a mild case of the same virus which has afflicted millions of others in a full blownway. And even though such individuals may not have been baptized into the idolatrous religion ofChristian Zionism, (as manifested in the master race ideology which is applied generously to theinhabitants of Israel by Jerry Falwell, Pat Robertson and the rest) nevertheless, when all is said and done, the real reason for their complacency is not pardonable by any means. The dirty little secret which muchof mainstream Christianity doesn’t want to face (nor wishes to have revealed) is that the reason for theirdeafening silence on the issue of how the peoples of the Middle East are suffering is not rooted in religiousor intellectual reservations that are the fruits of careful consideration. It is not rooted in the benign neglectthat many of its adherents would like to claim it is. Rather it is best understood as originating in the sameinstincts that gripped their forefathers 2,000 years ago in Jerusalem 33 AD, as they sat shivering andquivering behind locked doors. That instinct which afflicted the first Christians with the same sense ofspiritual paralysis that afflicts a good number of them today is simply (for lack of better phraseology) fearof the Jews. This fear is completely understandable, and only the truly blind or the truly dishonest would attempt to
