If only common sense, which screamed out like a banshee in the moment that this soldierfrom a country that dares to call itself Christian had been able to penetrate into his thoughts at thatmoment, it may have stopped him in his tracks.“My young, foolish boy, do you realize what you have just done? So hadhis favorite televangelists, the Pat Robertsons, Jerry Falwells and Tim Lahayes, who have told millionslike our young friend that the work of killing 1.5 billion people is a mission that has been ordained andblessed by the God of Israel. And just in case the magic spell woven by the founding fathers of this bloodbath in Iraq and Afghanistan didn’t do the trick, he had the assurances of his army chaplain, who wasthere, on cue, every day of every week, to administer the anesthetic salve of righteousness anytime one ofAmerica’s best might have had an attack of conscience.Pretty soon, the memories of the women and children he and his fellow Christian soldiers gunned downin cold blood would be gone.
