WilliamsRhonda Moore-JacksonABOUT THE PROGRAMThe doctoral program in Reading provides highquality instruction and research in the area of readingand literacy. As the only program of its kind in<strong>Alabama</strong>, the program utilizes a rigorous course ofstudy, combined with mentorship experiences led bytop-rated faculty.ADMISSION REQUIREMENTSApplicants for a Doctor of Philosophy Degree inReading/Literacy must have completed three yearsof P-12 teaching; must have an overall GPA of 3.5on a 4.0 scale at the Master level. Also required arethe following: (1) a completed <strong>Graduate</strong> Schoolapplication of admission; (2) all official transcripts;(3) three letters of recommendation that address theapplicant’s academic and professional work; (4)writing samples in the form of a term paper, thesis,or published journal article (5) (5) a <strong>Graduate</strong>Record Examination (GRE) composite score of290; (6) A philosophy paper related to theapplicant’s goals for personal and professionalgrowth.To be considered for admission, the applicant mustensure that his or her file is complete.
