I. General Remarks The following are the highlights of the main activities of the ASEAN-Japan Centre for FY2010 in trade, investment and tourism & exchange. For the details of these and other activities, please refer to Section II-VII. Trade 1. Trade Missions with Business Meetings at the ASEAN-Japan Hall During FY2010, the Trade Division organized one ASEAN Food & Beverage Trade Missions with Business Meetings and six (6) National Trade Missions with Business Meetings from Thailand, the Philippines, Lao PDR, Vietnam, Brunei, and Myanmar. The implementation of these Exhibitions together with various kinds of activities resulted in 12,020 visitors from business people and the general public and 90 ASEAN exhibitors participating in which 1,672 business meetings were concluded with Japanese buyers valued at US$25.8 million dollars worth of expected contracts. These exhibitions were reported in various media ranging from newspapers to trade journals as well as TV broadcasting. 2. Special Exhibition In June 2010, the Centre participated in “interiorlifestyle 2010,” a design-oriented trade fair in Tokyo, where 30 ASEAN exhibitors conducted 1,132 business meetings with Japanese buyers, resulting in US$6.17 million worth of expected orders. Compared with FY2009, the total number of business meetings increased 1.5 times and estimated sales increased by 30%. This remarkable result came from the better quality products & design from ASEAN along with a close collaboration with media. 3. Networking & Marketing Activities Institutional participation in ASEAN and Japan is an important tool to raise the Centre’s profile both internationally and domestically. In FY2010, the Centre participated in four (4) trade fairs in ASEAN Member Countries: Singapore, Indonesia, Malaysia and Cambodia by coordinating a group of Japanese buyers and press people to visit the trade fairs and factories. The Centre also conducted trade seminars and business meetings in both Kagoshima and Fukuoka as part of the efforts to promote the role of AJC and ASEAN products to the officials and people of the local cities in Japan. This has increased the awareness of the Japanese public on the importance of the Centre as a contact point for accessing the resources of the ASEAN Member Countries. 4. Information Dissemination In order to make ASEAN exporters understand the latest market situation and product requirements in Japan, a series of seminars and workshops were 1
