December 2010 on ASEAN culture and arts. It was the first time for the
Centre to arrange such lecture series through which the Centre gained
experience and strengthened networks with resource persons.
Another lecture visit conducted in FY2010 was to a local
elementary school, Onarimon Elementary School. The school has been
focusing on getting their students to learn about countries in Asia
including ASEAN, and therefore make a request to the Centre t to
conduct such a lecture visit. The lecture visit was conducted with the
cooperation of students from the ASEAN Member Countries. It was
very well received by the school with requests for re-visit in the near
future.
vi) Implementation of ASEAN Promotional Events at the ASEAN-Japan
Hall
One of the Centre’s objectives is to fully utilize the ASEAN-Japan
Hall to promote activities that will strengthen ASEAN-Japan
relationship.
In FY2010, 17 events were organized by the PR Section of the
Centre, some independently and others in collaboration with other
organizations. Compared to FY2009, where six events were jointly
organized, this is a big step not only in terms of the utilization of the hall
but also in terms of networking and collaboration with external
organizations.
Another aspect to note is that there were some events which
focused on the youths and students. From these events, several students
volunteered for future events organized by the Centre. It is important to
increase the number of “fans” of ASEAN and the ASEAN-Japan Centre
to ensure success in organizing future events.
vi) PR Activities through the ASEAN-Japan Centre Website
The website has proven to be a useful means for information service
both domestically and internationally and for promoting the Centre on a
larger scale. The Centre’s website is ranked high in the internet search
engines such as Yahoo Japan and Google when the word “ASEAN” and
the like are used, which proves that the Centre’s website is
well-recognized.
Announcement of events and reporting of events have been placed
carefully to be in time for the event activities to catch the attention of the
potential participants. The e-mail magazines (which can be registered
online through the Centre’s website) is also fully utilized to make
announcements of the events and publications of the Centre.
