iv) The Centre dispatched an ecotourism expert, Mr. Masaya Kusube, to
BIMP-EAGA to lecture at the seminars on “Ecotourism in Japan”.
Additionally, ecotourism experts in the respective countries delivered
presentations on their ecotourism situations, while the workshop participants
made presentations on what they had learned in Japan. Panel discussion
was also held at the end of the seminars.

c) Evaluation
By conducting the follow-up seminars, the Centre could disseminate
information on ecotourism in Japan and BIMP-EAGA to many industry
stakeholders in the respective countries.
The seminars were also ideal occasions for the exchange of views with
local stakeholders on how to leverage tourism resources and to improve
approaches, as well as to discuss some concerns regarding ecotourism. Topics
were not always specifically on the Japanese market, but covered a wider area.
Additionally, the seminar participants included local tourism experts and
university academians, who could further pass on the knowledge to their
stakeholders and students.
Many participants shared the opinion that it was important to protect the
environment while considering the livelihood of the local community, and that
education was the key to sustainable development. Many of them also actively
participated in the program by raising questions during the Q&A sessions, and
very lively discussions took place.
