IV. Tourism & Exchange<br />

1. ASEAN Fair (Tourism & Exchange)<br />

<br />

(Renamed from <strong>the</strong> former “ASEAN Tourism Fair”, <strong>the</strong> ASEAN Fair is an<br />

integration <strong>of</strong> trade, investment <strong>and</strong> tourism events.<br />

a) Outline<br />

i) Implementation <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> ASEAN Fair:<br />

Date: September 15 – 20, 2010 (6 days)<br />

Place: Yamakataya, Kagoshima City, Kagoshima Prefecture<br />

ii) The aim is to showcase ASEAN’s rich culture <strong>and</strong> traditions by inviting<br />

ASEAN delegates to perform arts <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>icrafts-making demonstrations at<br />

<strong>the</strong> Fair.<br />

iii) Two (2) cultural performers from Brunei, Indonesia, Malaysia, Philippines<br />

<strong>and</strong> Singapore; one NTO (National Tourism Organization) staff member as<br />

team leader <strong>and</strong> one artisan from each ASEAN Member Country were<br />

invited to <strong>the</strong> Fair. (Total <strong>of</strong> 30 persons).<br />

iv) Yamakataya organized an “Asian Bazaar” on <strong>the</strong> same floor <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Fair where<br />

Asian products were sold. A small restaurant was also set-up to serve<br />

Indonesian, Thai <strong>and</strong> Vietnamese food.<br />

v) Main activities conducted:<br />

- Performance <strong>of</strong> traditional <strong>and</strong> contemporary ASEAN performing arts by<br />

dancers/musicians <strong>and</strong> h<strong>and</strong>icraft-making demonstrations by<br />

artists/artisans invited from <strong>the</strong> ten member countries:<br />
