“Nikkan Plus” is another media which the Centre has newly explored
in FY2010. It is a monthly paper that is enclosed in a daily sports
newspaper, and the Centre has placed a series of three advertorials
introducing the ASEAN Members Countries in a fun-to-learn format. As
feedbacks from readers have been very positive, this will be another
media that the Centre wishes to future utilize in the coming fiscal year.
While the Centre places an advertorial on “The Japan Times” every
year, the advertorial in FY2010 was accompanied by a feature article
focusing on the Forum on the Contents Industry held in Singapore in
November. This was to widely appeal to the international and the
business sector about the Centre’s new initiative on the development of
the Contents Industry.
On the whole, the number of advertorials placed was larger than in
previous years providing more PR exposure for the Centre in time for its
30 th anniversary in May 2011.
iii) Participation in Events
Participation in the “Asian Networks of Major Cities 21 Exhibition”
(ANMC21) was a new example of collaboration with external
organizations. The exhibition was organized by the Tokyo Metropolitan
Government Office, and for running the “ASEAN Market”, the Centre
collaborated with restaurants and sellers of foodstuff of the ASEAN
Member Countries. By participating in this event, the Centre gained a lot
of publicity through the Tokyo Metropolitan Government’s channels
such as the official newsletters, website and the local TV network. The
exhibition itself attracted a huge number of visitors.
The Centre’s participation in the “Global Festa” in FY2010 took a
different approach from the previous years. The Centre collaborated with
the students from the ASEAN Member Countries studying in Japan to
create more interactive activities at the booth by having quiz, coloring
sheets of traditional costumes, puzzle of an Angkor ruin motif,
introduction of games of the ASEAN Member Countries, and tasting of
snacks. Through these activities, the visitors were able to experience the
unique ASEAN culture in addition to taking home the information
materials.
The Centre again participated in the “Japan-ASEAN Youth Leaders
Summit” to distribute the information materials and to exchange with the
youths of the ASEAN Member Countries and Japan.
iv) Briefing/Lectures on ASEAN and the Centre (Receiving Visitors/
Lecture Visits)
Having acquired good responses over the years and due to the
growing interest towards ASEAN, the Centre has been receiving a large
number of visitors, especially junior high school and university students.
Upon request by the Japan University of Economics, the Centre
arranged and conducted a series of five lectures between May and
