PlanesBased in the US, Lie-Nielsen specialises in re-introducing and improvingtraditional plane types. Lie-Nielsen makes its tools from only the finestmaterials, many of which had previously been too expensive, not yet fullydeveloped or unavailable in suitable tool-making quality. Today, Lie-Nielsenplane blades are made of A2 steel, which prolongs the edge life andprevents rust. In all models, a blade thickness of 3.2 to 4.8 mm reducesvibrations when the tool is in use. During production, blades are hardened to approx. 62 HRC and subjectedto low-temperature treatment (cryogenic hardening) for an even finer grain and enhanced durability.
