PerlitePerlitic roof board insulation is a rigid insulating materialmanufactured from expanded volcanic minerals combinedwith organic fibers and waterproofing binders. The top sur-face of perlite roof insulation is generally treated to minimizebitumen absorption and to provide an intimate bond withbuilt-up roofing materials.nal condensation. Some of the factors to be considered aregeographic location, occupancy, humidity conditions, type ofdeck and ceiling, venting, and environmental control systems.Extruded PolystyreneExtruded polystyrene board is formed from a plastic (polystyrene)polymer. Closed cells are integrally formed withinthe insulation materials during the expansion process. Thecontinuous extrusion process produces a tight and completeskin (free of open cells) to form on each side of the insulationboard. Boards are expanded to a specific thickness duringthe manufacturing process.Glass FiberGlass fiber roof board insulation is a rigid insulating materialcomposed of fine glass fibers, which provide the in sui atingproperties of the product. The glass-fiber-reinforcedasphalt and kraft paper top surface of the insulation boardsprovides a tough, impact-resistant mopping surface uponwhich the built-up roof system may be applied-Glass fiber roof insluation will vent moisture vapor throughthe insulation boards. In the event of damage to the built-uproof, moisture vapor can be vented and free water can bepumped out of the roof system, thereby eliminating the needto remove the insulation should it become wet. Once the roofinsulation has dried, its original thermal value is restored.Cellular GlassCellular glass roof insulation is a rigid insulating materialcomposed of heat-fused, closed glass cells. It is available instandard insulation board or block form and in special taperedblocks that provide drainage slope for roof decks.PhenolicPhenolic foam insulation board is a closed-cell, rigid, ther-mosetting phenolic foam core material manufactured in variousthicknesses. Currently the most popular product is aphenolic foam core integrally laminated between glass fiberfacer sheets.FiberboardFiberboard insulation is a preformed rigid fibrous-feltedhomogenous panel, composed principally of wood or canefibers integrally treated with waterproofing binders.PolyisocyanuratePolyisocyanurate foam board insulation is produced from apolyisocyanurate-based chemical. The polyisocyanuratematerial is usually sandwiched between asphalt saturated or.ganic or inorganic felt facers sheet. Glass fiber reinforcementused in some foam cores provides additional fire resistanceand greater dimensional stability. The trade-name roof board insulation listed in the Guide typicallyshows C and R thermal values and weight per squarefoot for various thicknesses and densities.EXPANDED POLYSTYRENE HOMOGENEOUS ROOFBOARD INSULATION MATERIAL DATA SHEET5/4' I' 2' ~plc.1 Thlckn 3' 4' 5' 6'Thermal Thermal Thermal Thermal Thermal Thermal ThermalValues Values Value.
