Fuses are installed to isolatepermanent faults on the distribution system. Ideally, these fuses are installed atlocations which limit the interruption to the fewest number of customers as possible.Proper fuse application will limit the duration of the interruption by isolating the fault to asmaller area and reducing the time required to find the fault.Drivers:Fuses isolate the faulted area of a feeder and thereby interrupt the smallest practicalnumber of customers. Outage restoration time may also be reduced since fusing willsplit the overhead circuit into smaller segments of the distribution system that requirespatrolling to locate the cause of an unplanned customer interruption.Customer Benefits:These projects will result in a reduction in the number of customer interruptions and willhelp the Company to continue to meet its service quality metrics.2011 to <strong>2012</strong> Variance:The Company has actively been installing fuses on its Worst Performing feeders as partof ERR evaluations. This program expands the scope of feeders being reviewed forincreased fusing opportunities across the service territory. The projected investment isshown in the table below.
