In July of 1926, the Sokol Organization held a<br />

same time, a pageant was to be performed in<br />
conjunction with the sporting events in the middle<br />
of the Vlatava River. <strong>The</strong> performers were meant<br />
to gather on the small islands in the middle of<br />
�������������������������������������������������<br />
Prague and the Czech people. This is the smaller<br />
format version of the poster, most likely used as a<br />
handbill.<br />

Bernhardt had “a twenty-year collaboration with Victorien Sardou . . .<br />
who wrote eight melodramas with her in mind, including Théodora . . .<br />
La Tosca . . . and Cléopâtre . . . they would be among her most famous<br />
roles. Much better known today than the play, Giacomo Puccini’s opera<br />
Tosca, which premiered in 1900, was so closely based on the work written<br />
for Bernhardt that the librettists . . . were sued, successfully, by Sardou<br />
���������������������������������������������������<br />
