A fun two-sheet poster merrily displaying a beaming couple in photomontage
on their way to a early spring picnic, their Klepper brand raincoats keeping
them dry from any sudden showers. Circling them are a variety of fruits
rendered in loose colored pencil, matching the small bird below.

Regardless of his marvelous poster output, Sem is most remembered as an
astute caricaturist, able to tweak the vanity of the privileged without creating

and rich in personality, not employing the mere exaggerations of physical
���������������������������������������������������������������
rely upon. Le Turf is a collection of twenty-eight plates that bring the citizenry
of a day at the races to the page. Each image is a wonder, running the gamut
of equine patronage from every corner of the globe, from the foppish to the
dowdy, embracing the winners and losers with equal fervor. And note that
������������������������������������������������������������
the company of an escort. Obviously the track and its fashionably decadent
trappings was no place for a single lady.
