Applied Behavioural Changes Framework.Four sub-areas were delineated <strong>for</strong> observation purposes:• near a concession stand where an attractive signboard on <strong>the</strong>importance of recycling had been placed, alongside a clearlymarked container <strong>for</strong> plastic, glass and aluminum plus atraditional garbage bin;• a street corner, not served by <strong>the</strong> concession stand, but witha recycling container and a traditional bin;• a highly congested bus s<strong>to</strong>p in front of <strong>the</strong> Lincoln Memorialwhere <strong>the</strong> same signboard had been placed;• a concession area near <strong>the</strong> Lincoln Memorial with multiplegarbage receptacles, <strong>the</strong> recycling sign and a rest area <strong>for</strong>visi<strong>to</strong>rs.Existing signsThe signboard made three points. It defined <strong>for</strong> <strong>the</strong> public that glassbottles, plastic bottles, foam cups and take-out containers, and aluminumcans should be placed in bins separate from o<strong>the</strong>r garbage (<strong>the</strong> articleswere depicted and <strong>the</strong>re was also an illustration of two young childrenusing <strong>the</strong> recycling container). Secondly, it illustrated <strong>the</strong> technology ofrecycling, and finally it indicated how much garbage is produced on <strong>the</strong>Mall every week.16
