A change from System I to SystemII or from System II to System I is permitted prior to the midpointof the course. It is the responsibility of the student to initiatethis procedure and complete the required paperwork.A maximum of 24 credits of “CR” may be appliedtoward graduation from <strong>Arizona</strong> <strong>Western</strong> <strong>College</strong>. A minimumof six credits in Freshman Composition and therequired major courses must be completed under SystemI except upon approval of the Vice President for LearningServices or designee. Courses taken for the <strong>Arizona</strong>General Education Curriculum (AGEC) must be completedunder System I except upon approval of the VicePresident for Learning Services or designee.IncompletesA grade of incomplete is permissible only when the studenthas been unable to complete assigned course work due toan illness or to other reasons beyond his/her control andis applicable only when the student would otherwise havehad a passing grade.A student receiving an incomplete has the responsibilityof initiating the procedure for completing the work. Thecourse must be completed during the following semesteror a grade of “F” (if registered for Grading System I), or“NC” (if registered for Grading System II), will be recordedfor the course. Additional time may be required by thestudent and granted at the discretion of the instructor.In the event an extension is granted, the instructor mustnotify the Enrollment Services Office in writing.AuditingAuditing classes is permitted with the permission of theinstructor. Students auditing a class are expected to attendclass regularly and participate in general class activities;however, students are not required to take examinationsor complete class assignments. Students auditing a classmust officially register in the course but will not receivecredit or a grade in the class. The grade symbol of “AU”will show on the official college transcript.In addition to the regular tuition and fee charges,there will be an additional assessment as specified in theSchedule of Fees.The last day to change a class from audit to creditor credit to audit is the last day of the add/drop period.Courses taken as audit may not be retaken for credit.Course-in-progress Grade“IP” is a grade indicating a course is in progress and a finalgrade has yet to be assigned. It is not to be used as an alternativeto an incomplete grade. The “IP” must be used foropen entry/open exit courses or short courses approvedby the Dean of Instruction when the ending date of thecourse is not coincidental with the ending date of thegrading period in which the course begins.At the close of the first grading period, an “IP” gradewill be assigned. The “IP” will be replaced by a lettergrade at the conclusion of the course. There is a limit ofone more semester beyond the semester of enrollment (notincluding summer) to replace the “IP.” After this timelimit, the “IP” reverts to the grade of “F.” The “IP” is notcomputed in the G.P.A.General InformationAWC 2009–2010 C atalog31
