Step 5: How will youdraw your conclusions?Analyse the informationYou have arrived at Step 5. So you are nearly finished withthe outcome M&E Plan. Actually, this is the most interestingpart, because it will provide you with new valuable insights.Now, it is time to decide on how to enter the collected data,to do the analysis, and to draw your conclusions. Below aretips and advice. Involve others, because together you seeand know a lot more. You might even involve a consultantwith analytical skills to do the data analysis.Tools- Appendix 4: Suggestions for Entry and Analysisof Quantitative Data (page 82)- Worksheet : questions 23-25Enter DataAfter the data collectors have gone to the field and collectedall the data, you now have to organise this information in sucha way that you can use it for analysis. Data entry is the firststep to do this. A clear explanation is given in Appendix 4:Suggestions for Entry and Analysis of Quantitative DataQualitative data entryIf the interviews and discussions are recorded on a recorder,you can transcribe them: listen to the responses of the peopleyou interviewed and write them in a word document. 7 If youmade notes on paper during the interviews and discussions,you can also type these in a document. Having the text in adocument will help to cut and paste the information, whichwill help in analysis. The observation tool is also a qualitativetool and the responses to the open ended questions can beentered into a document.Quantitative data entryThere are some options to enter the data from a questionnaire,including software like Epi-data (available for free on theInternet 8 ), Excel, and the Statistical Package for Social Sciences(SPSS). SPSS is probably the best option for data entry anddata analysis, but requires skills and this is not addressed inthe Workbook. Appendix 10 provides suggestions for dataentry of the Questionnaire for Young People in the Workbook.Analyse dataThis section provides some basic advise about how to conductquantitative and qualitative data analysis.Qualitative data analysisWhen you start analysing the interviews and focus groupdiscussions, do it step by step. Start with the analysis of thefocus group discussions with young people.
