assume that the dist<strong>in</strong>ct cerebral areas exhibit different sensitivities to <strong>alum<strong>in</strong>ium</strong>, which<br />

can be partly expla<strong>in</strong>ed by the differences <strong>in</strong> the bra<strong>in</strong> barrier mechanisms. In fact, our<br />

data lean towards the concept <strong>of</strong> the blood-bra<strong>in</strong> regional barrier <strong>in</strong>troduced by Zheng et<br />

al. (2003). Evidently, the hypothesis that it would be more accurate to talk about a<br />

blood-hippocampal barrier and a blood-striatum barrier, for example, needs to be<br />

corroborated and characterised by future research.<br />
