SECNAVINST 1412.9B7 Feb 2006(a), the third anniversary of the date on which he or she wouldotherwise be discharged or transferred from an active status.4. Performed less than 18 years of service,computed under section 12732 of reference (a), on either thedate when SECNAV approves the report of the selection board; orthe date when his or her name is removed from the promotionlist, whichever applies, may be continued based upon the needsof the Marine Corps Reserve. Chief warrant officers separatedfor failure of promotion may request enlistment, and in thediscretion of SECNAV be enlisted in a grade not lower than thatheld immediately before original appointment as a warrantofficer. In making recommendations to SECNAV, DC M&RA shallconsider the individual's record of service as a warrantofficer, the length of service performed as a warrant officer,and the needs of the service in the MOS in which the individualwould serve in an enlisted status.(c) Not requested transfer to the Marine CorpsReserve retired list per paragraph 3(a) above, is not eligiblefor retention in an active status as provided in paragraph 3(b),and does not request enlistment as provided in paragraph3(b)(4), or is denied enlistment, shall be honorably dischargedfrom the Marine Corps Reserve.(4) WO. The first 5 years of a Reserve warrant officerservice is a probationary period. Reserve W-1s found notqualified for promotion may be reconsidered for promotion,separated, or retired if eligible, in accordance with paragraph15 of enclosure (4).c. Deferment of Retirement or Separation for MedicalReasons(1) If, in the case of a warrant officer required to beretired or separated, and consistent with section 14519 ofreference (a), SECNAV determines that the evaluation of thephysical condition of the officer and determination of theofficer's entitlement to retirement or separation for physicaldisability require hospitalization or medical observation andthat such hospitalization or medical observation cannot becompleted with confidence in a manner consistent with theofficer's well being before the date on which the officer wouldotherwise be required to retire or be separated, SECNAV maydefer the retirement or separation of the officer.16Enclosure (2)
