ST CUTHBERT’S CATHOLIC HIGH SCHOOLADMISSIONS POLICYThe Governing Body of St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School, Newcastle is the Admissions Authority forthis school. The Governing Body intends to admit up to 190 pupils to Year 7 in September 2009. Thisnumber will apply to Years 7 to 11.Separate arrangements are made for admission to Year 12 (sixth form) and are available from theschool.St Cuthbert’s Catholic High School serves the parishes of: English Martyrs, Stamfordham Road; StMary’s Cathedral; St Robert’s, Fenham; St Bede’s, Denton Burn; St Charles’, Gosforth; St Cuthbert’s,Kenton; St Cuthbert’s, Throckley; St George’s, Bells Close; St John Vianney, West Denton; St Joseph’s,Benwell; St Mark’s, Westerhope and St Michael’s, Elswick. These are referred to hereafter as thepartner parishes.English Martyrs’ Primary, Fenham; Our Lady and St Anne’s, Newcastle; Sacred Heart Primary, Fenham;St Bede’s, Denton Burn; St Charles’ Primary, Gosforth; St Cuthbert’s Primary, Kenton; St Cuthbert’sPrimary, Walbottle; St George’s Primary, Bells Close; St John Vianney Primary, West Denton; StJoseph’s Primary, Benwell; St Mark’s Primary, Westerhope; St Michael’s Primary, Elswick and StOswald’s Primary, Gosforth are referred to as Catholic Primary Partner Schools.Where there are insufficient places available to meet all parental preferences, priority will be given toapplications in the following order:1. Catholic Children who are Looked-after Children (Children in the care of the Local Authority)2. Catholic Children whose home address is within the parish boundaries of one of the partnerparishes and who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School.3. Catholic Children whose home address is within the parish boundaries of one of the partnerparishes and who attend a Catholic Primary School.4. Catholic Children whose home address is outside of the parish boundaries of any of the partnerparishes and who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School.5. Catholic Children whose home address is within the parish boundaries of one of the partnerparishes and who do not attend a Catholic Primary School.6. Catholic Children who have a brother or sister attending the school at the time of admission.7. Catholic Children whose home address is outside the parish boundaries of one of the partnerparishes and who attend a Catholic Primary School.8. Catholic Children whose home address is outside the Parish boundaries of one of the partnerparishes.9. Non-Catholic Children who are Looked-after Children (Children in the care of the LocalAuthority).10. Children of other Christian denominations who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School andwho have a brother attending the school at the time of admission.11. Children of other Christian denominations who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School who donot have a brother attending the school at the time of admission.138
ADDITIONAL NOTESThe Admissions Policy Criteria will be applied on an Equal Preference basis.Catholic Children are Children who have been baptised as Catholics or have been formallyreceived into the Catholic Church. All applicants seeking admission under these criteria will beasked to provide evidence that the child has been baptised as a Catholic or has been receivedinto the Catholic Church.If applicants are seeking admission under any of criteria 10-17 above, they will be asked for aletter of support from their minister or Faith leader, or suitable equivalent. For Christianapplicants a baptismal certificate must be provided.Special Medical or Social Needs12. Children who have a statement of Special Educational Need which names our schoolwill be admitted to the school. Children of other Christian denominations who have abrother attending the school at the time of admission.13. Children of other Christian denominations who do not have a brother attending theschool at the time of admission.14. Children of other Faith traditions who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School and whohave a brother attending the school at the time of admission.15. Children of other Faith traditions who attend a Catholic Primary Partner School who donot have a brother attending the school at the time of admission.16. Children of other Faith traditions who have a brother attending the school at the time ofadmission.17. Children of other Faith traditions who do not have a brother attending the school at thetime of admission.18. Children who have a brother attending the school at the time of admission.19. Children who have attended a Catholic Primary Partner School for as long as they havelived at their current home address20. Other children.We will consider individual applications involving medical or social needs. This kind ofapplication must be supported in writing by relevant professional agencies i.e. a doctor or socialworker. This supporting evidence should set out the particular reasons why the school is mostsuitable and the difficulties that would be caused if the child had to attend another school.If your child has Special Educational Needs but does not have a "statement" of need then yourapplication will be considered on the basis of the school's admission policy.139
