Starting SchoolNursery school places for younger children.Only if places remain, will an application for a place in a nursery school (but not a nurseryclass) be considered for a younger child. The child must be three on or before 31 December ofthe same year.The school governing body is free to exercise discretion in the light of the child’s circumstancesand will consider an application if the child meets one or more special reasons for admission,such as• Family breakdown• Three or more children under 5 years old in one household• Children who are at an educational disadvantage because their use of the English languageis minimal or non-existent• Home accommodation unsuitable for young children• Failure to thrive socially, medically or psychologically• Physical, sensory or learning difficultiesIf special reasons are to be considered, detailed information about the child’s circumstance willbe required.36
