Starting School – First and Primary SchoolAdmissions Policy for Newcastle Community First and Primary SchoolsYour child will be able <strong>to</strong> go <strong>to</strong> your preferred school unless <strong>the</strong>re are more applications for thatschool than <strong>the</strong>re are places available. Where <strong>the</strong>re are more applications for admission thanplaces available, <strong>the</strong> following ranked criteria will be used <strong>to</strong> determine which children will beallocated places after children with Statements <strong>of</strong> Special Educational needs where <strong>the</strong>statement names a specific school.1. Children in public care (looked-after children).2. Where <strong>the</strong>re will be an older bro<strong>the</strong>r or sister in attendance at <strong>the</strong> school at <strong>the</strong> date <strong>of</strong>admission.3. Children with a special medical condition. Any relevant medical condition must be madeknown at <strong>the</strong> time <strong>the</strong> application for a place is made. A medical certificate is required if <strong>the</strong>application is <strong>to</strong> be considered on this basis and may be referred <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> health authority forconsideration – we must be satisfied that <strong>the</strong>re is a specific medical reason which makesattendance at a particular school essential.4. The measure <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> straight line distance from <strong>the</strong> school <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> home address <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> child.Available places will be allocated <strong>to</strong> those applicants living <strong>the</strong> nearest.Important – pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> addressYou will be asked <strong>to</strong> provide pro<strong>of</strong> <strong>of</strong> your address if <strong>the</strong> school is over-subscribed. If you donot do so when asked, or if you supply information that is fraudulent or intentionally misleading<strong>the</strong>n <strong>the</strong> LA has <strong>the</strong> right <strong>to</strong> withdraw any <strong>of</strong>fer <strong>of</strong> a school place.An <strong>of</strong>fer may also be withdrawn if you do not respond <strong>to</strong> <strong>the</strong> <strong>of</strong>fer and return <strong>the</strong>acceptance form by 13 March 2009.Voluntary Aided (Church) SchoolsThe governing body <strong>of</strong> each school determines <strong>the</strong> admission policy for its school. Fur<strong>the</strong>rinformation about admission policies for Voluntary Aided (Church) Primary schools inNewcastle can be found in Section 7 in this handbook.The Local Authority will, on behalf <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> Voluntary Aided school governing body, <strong>of</strong>fer a place<strong>to</strong> you at whichever <strong>of</strong> <strong>the</strong> schools you ranked highest.42
