TRANSFER TO THE NEXT STAGE OF EDUCATIONAdmissions Policy for Transfer to Newcastle Community Middle,Secondary, and High Schools and Excelsior AcademyYour child will be able to go to your preferred school unless there are more applications tothat school than there are places available.Each preference is considered and if there are more applications than places available thefollowing oversubscription criteria will be used (in the order shown below) to allocate placesafter any children with a statement of special educational needs where the statement names aspecific school:1. Children in public care (looked-after children).2. Where the child attends a designated 'feeder' school.3. Where the child who does not attend a designated 'feeder' school will have a brother orsister in attendance at the school at the date of admission.4. Where the child has a special medical condition. A medical certificate is required if theapplication is to be considered on this basis and will be referred to the Health Authorityfor consideration – the authority must be satisfied that there is a specified medicalreason which makes attendance at that particular school essential.5. The measure of the straight-line distance from the school to the home address of thechild. Available places will be allocated to those applicants living nearest to the school.If there are insufficient places available for all applicants, applications will be ranked accordingto these oversubscription criteria, the final deciding factor being the distance from home toschool. Places will be offered to applicants ranked highest.Important – proof of addressIf you are offered a place at an oversubscribed school, you will be asked to provide proof ofyour address.If you do not do so when asked or if you supply information that is fraudulent or intentionallymisleading then the Local Authority has the right to withdraw any offer of a school place.An offer may also be withdrawn if you do not accept the offer by 13 March 2009.57
