41 8 TREATMENT OF EXPERIMENTAL DATAThe end result of this discussion can be summarized thus:(1) the rate of disappearance of isoprene is first order with respect to isopreneat constant active centre concentration;(2) the rate coefficient at the particular temperature of 35.1" C is7.139 x sec-',the true value lying with 90 :!probability between (6.98 and 7.30) x 10-4sec-';(3) the standard error of the rate coefficient is0.069 x sec-'(D.F. = 3)and is determined by the lack of precise control of the active centre concentrationfrom run to run;(4) the precision of the rate coefficient is best improved by refining the techniqueof obtaining a constant number of active centres in the reaction system.
