3. DESCRIPTION3.1 This Code specifies the safety requirements of two major groups ofsuspended working platforms, i.e. permanent suspended workingplatforms and temporary suspended working platforms.3.2 Permanent Suspended Working Platform3.2.1 A permanent suspended working platform is designed especially to bepermanently installed on a specific building or structure for the inspection,cleaning and maintenance of the facades. It is also known as a buildingmaintenance unit.3.2.2 It comprises a working platform suspended by wire ropes from a roof rig,a trolley of the monorail fixed to the building, or a roof trolley. The roof rigmay be a fixed structure to which a working platform is attached. Theworking platform may be lifted and lowered and may be traversed androtated.3.2.3 If the suspended working platform consists of a roof trolley, the roof trolleycan operate either on rails or on suitable surface, e.g. a concrete track.3.2.4 The system may be power or hand operated. The hoisting mechanismmay be mounted either on the roof rig or on the working platform.3.3 Temporary Suspended Working Platform3.3.1 A temporary suspended working platform is temporarily assembled on abuilding or a structure. It will be dismantled at the end of the work forwhich it was installed.3.3.2 This type of temporary suspended working platform is generally used forpainting and insulating work, cladding, repairs and refurbishment onbuilding, bridges, chimneys, silos and other structures.10
