8. INSPECTION, EXAMINATION AND TEST8.1 Inspection by Competent Person8.1.1 Prior to commencement <strong>of</strong> daily work, all the suspension ropes <strong>and</strong> safetyropes should be inspected by a competent person (regulation 19(2) <strong>of</strong>the SWPR). The ropes should be in safe working condition be<strong>for</strong>e theyare put into use. The inspection should ensure that no bolts are loose orhave been removed <strong>and</strong> that all connections are sound.8.1.2 Every suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be inspected in the immediatelypreceding 7 days be<strong>for</strong>e its use by a competent person. A statement tothe effect that it is in safe working order should be entered into an approved<strong>for</strong>m (Form 1) by the competent person (regulation 19(1) <strong>of</strong> the SWPR).8.1.3 The visual <strong>and</strong> physical inspection is to find out if there are any itemshaving abnormal wear <strong>and</strong> tear, malfunction, oil leakage, overheating,corrosion, unusual noise, dislocation, misalignment, visual cracks,overloading, abnormal slackening or elongation, <strong>and</strong> excessive vibrationetc. Any defect discovered during the inspection should be recorded inthe maintenance log book <strong>and</strong> thereafter effectively remedied immediately.8.1.4 The inspection should cover the following:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(f)any apparent defect in the hoist mechanism, wire ropes <strong>and</strong> shackles;any abnormal function <strong>of</strong> the braking system, the automatic safetydevice;the condition <strong>of</strong> the outriggers, socket <strong>for</strong> the davit arm, parapet wallclamp, the tie-back;any defect in the power cable, control button, <strong>and</strong> plug;incorrect fitting <strong>of</strong> lifeline <strong>and</strong> safety harness <strong>and</strong> their anchorages;<strong>and</strong>the condition <strong>of</strong> guide rails <strong>and</strong> toe-boards <strong>of</strong> the working plat<strong>for</strong>m.48
