5.8.3 If the rope is to be wound on to the drum in more than one layer, the ropeanchorage should be so located as to avoid interference with even winding.It should preferably be placed outside the drum flange <strong>and</strong> should becapable <strong>of</strong> sustaining twice the maximum <strong>for</strong>ce induced in the ropesystem.5.9 <strong>Working</strong> Plat<strong>for</strong>m5.9.1 The working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be <strong>of</strong> sufficient area <strong>for</strong> the persons employedon it <strong>and</strong> <strong>of</strong> at least 440 mm wide (regulation 8(a) <strong>of</strong> SWPR). The workingplat<strong>for</strong>m should be <strong>of</strong> sound material <strong>and</strong> the surface should be slipresistant.5.9.2 Except <strong>for</strong> the provision <strong>of</strong> drainage holes, the working plat<strong>for</strong>m shouldbe closely boarded, planked or plated (regulation 8(b) <strong>of</strong> SWPR). Anygap in the working plat<strong>for</strong>m should not exceed 6 mm in width.5.9.3 The working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be provided on all sides with suitable toeboards placed at a height not less than 200 mm above the level <strong>of</strong> theworking plat<strong>for</strong>m (regulation 8(c) <strong>of</strong> SWPR).5.9.4 The working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be provided on all sides with suitable guardrails<strong>of</strong> adequate strength to a height between 900 mm <strong>and</strong> 1150 mmabove the level <strong>of</strong> the working plat<strong>for</strong>m. The space between any toe board<strong>and</strong> the lowest guard-rail above it does not exceed 700 mm (regulation8(d) <strong>of</strong> SWPR).5.9.5 No guard-rail should fracture or show any permanent de<strong>for</strong>mation whena 50 kg weight is hung on its centre point <strong>and</strong> the working plat<strong>for</strong>m istilted at an angle <strong>of</strong> 30 degrees.5.9.6 If a working plat<strong>for</strong>m extends beyond a suspension point, a factor <strong>of</strong> safetyagainst overturning <strong>of</strong> 2 should be ensured in the working plat<strong>for</strong>m designin order to provide adequate stability.32
