8.1.5 During the inspection, functional test <strong>of</strong> the following items should alsobe carried out by the competent person in accordance with themanufacturer’s instructions:(a)(b)(c)(d)(e)(f)(g)all operational control including emergency stop;communication system;manual descend facility;all limit switches;all electrical wiring <strong>and</strong> earthing component;automatic safety devices; <strong>and</strong>braking systems.8.1.6 Any defect <strong>and</strong> abnormal function noted during the inspection should berecorded in the maintenance log book. Minor repairs such as tightening <strong>of</strong>bolts <strong>and</strong> nuts should be immediately carried out. If repairs involve the strength<strong>and</strong> stability <strong>of</strong> the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m, the effectiveness <strong>and</strong>efficiency <strong>of</strong> the driving mechanism, function <strong>of</strong> electrical equipment or properfunction <strong>of</strong> the various safety devices, the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m shouldbe removed immediately from service. The suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>mshould be returned to maintenance contractor <strong>for</strong> repair <strong>and</strong> thereafter tested<strong>and</strong> thoroughly examined be<strong>for</strong>e put into service again.8.2 Thorough Examination by Competent Examiner8.2.1 Every suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be thoroughly examined by acompetent examiner in the immediately preceding 6 months be<strong>for</strong>e it isput into use. A certificate in the approved <strong>for</strong>m (Form 2) should be obtainedfrom the competent examiner to certify that the suspended workingplat<strong>for</strong>m is in safe working order (regulation 20(1) <strong>of</strong> the SWPR).8.2.2 Every thorough examination <strong>of</strong> a suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should beto detect significant defects <strong>of</strong> critical parts be<strong>for</strong>e they result in the failure<strong>of</strong> the working plat<strong>for</strong>m structure, anchorage system, suspension gear ora safety device.8.2.3 All critical parts <strong>of</strong> the working plat<strong>for</strong>m structure, anchorage system,suspension gear <strong>and</strong> safety devices should, where accessible, beexamined <strong>for</strong> failures, cracks, broken members, de<strong>for</strong>mation, corrosionor excessive wear.49
