DESCRIPTION3.1 This <strong>Code</strong> specifies the safety requirements <strong>of</strong> two major groups <strong>of</strong>suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>ms, i.e. permanent suspended workingplat<strong>for</strong>ms <strong>and</strong> temporary suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>ms.3.2 Permanent <strong>Suspended</strong> <strong>Working</strong> Plat<strong>for</strong>m3.2.1 A permanent suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m is designed especially to bepermanently installed on a specific building or structure <strong>for</strong> the inspection,cleaning <strong>and</strong> maintenance <strong>of</strong> the facades. It is also known as a buildingmaintenance unit.3.2.2 It comprises a working plat<strong>for</strong>m suspended by wire ropes from a ro<strong>of</strong> rig,a trolley <strong>of</strong> the monorail fixed to the building, or a ro<strong>of</strong> trolley. The ro<strong>of</strong> rigmay be a fixed structure to which a working plat<strong>for</strong>m is attached. Theworking plat<strong>for</strong>m may be lifted <strong>and</strong> lowered <strong>and</strong> may be traversed <strong>and</strong>rotated.3.2.3 If the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m consists <strong>of</strong> a ro<strong>of</strong> trolley, the ro<strong>of</strong> trolleycan operate either on rails or on suitable surface, e.g. a concrete track.3.2.4 The system may be power or h<strong>and</strong> operated. The hoisting mechanismmay be mounted either on the ro<strong>of</strong> rig or on the working plat<strong>for</strong>m.3.3 Temporary <strong>Suspended</strong> <strong>Working</strong> Plat<strong>for</strong>m3.3.1 A temporary suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m is temporarily assembled on abuilding or a structure. It will be dismantled at the end <strong>of</strong> the work <strong>for</strong>which it was installed.3.3.2 This type <strong>of</strong> temporary suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m is generally used <strong>for</strong>painting <strong>and</strong> insulating work, cladding, repairs <strong>and</strong> refurbishment onbuilding, bridges, chimneys, silos <strong>and</strong> other structures.10
