8.3.3 Test Requirements8.3.3.1 Prior to any overload test, a thorough examination by a competentexaminer should be conducted as mentioned in clause 8.2 to ensure thatthe suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m is suitable <strong>for</strong> the overload test.8.3.3.2 Every suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be subjected to a load testcarried out at the site <strong>of</strong> installation.8.3.3.3 The pro<strong>of</strong> load <strong>for</strong> testing <strong>of</strong> a suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be150 per cent <strong>of</strong> the safe working load.8.3.3.4 The pro<strong>of</strong> load <strong>for</strong> testing <strong>of</strong> a rope, chain or lifting gear should be at leasttwice the safe working load.8.3.3.5 Where a wire rope is tested, a sample <strong>of</strong> the rope should be tested todestruction, <strong>and</strong> the safe working load should not exceed 1/8 <strong>of</strong> thebreaking load <strong>of</strong> the sample tested.8.3.3.6 Overload device function test should be carried out in accordance withthe manufacturer’s instruction. The amount <strong>of</strong> overload used should bein line with the manufacturer’s recommendation.8.3.3.7 A drop test should be carried out at the safe working load on everysuspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m to test that the automatic safety devices arecapable <strong>of</strong> stopping <strong>and</strong> holding the load at the slope <strong>of</strong> the workingplat<strong>for</strong>m specified by the manufacturer.8.3.3.8 Pro<strong>of</strong> load test, overload device function test <strong>and</strong> operational test shouldbe conducted at or near ground or l<strong>and</strong>ing level. Be<strong>for</strong>e conducting thetests, a thorough examination should be carried out by the competentexaminer to ensure that no defective parts, malfunction <strong>of</strong> devices orloose components are present in the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m.8.3.3.9 After the pro<strong>of</strong> load test, drop test, overload device function test <strong>and</strong>operational test, the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m should be thoroughlyexamined by the competent examiner to ensure the safe working order<strong>of</strong> the suspended working plat<strong>for</strong>m. The thorough examination shouldinclude those items as stated in clause 8.2.8.3.3.10 When conducting the tests, the area under which the test is to be carriedout should be cleared <strong>of</strong> all persons. No person is allowed to remain onthe working plat<strong>for</strong>m during the tests.52
