Next, turn the rack all the way to the driverside and record the measurement from therack clamp to the end of the tie rod. In ourexample the length is 15-1/8 inches. To calculate how far back to move the rackto center it, use this formula: add the twolengths together and divide by two. This isthe distance from the rack clamp on thedriver side to the end of the tie rod with therack centered.Example: Driver side length equals 15-1/8”Passenger side length equals 9-7/8”15-1/8” plus 9-7/8” equals 25” divided by 2equals 12-1/2”.Turn the rack back toward the passengerside until the length is 12-1/2 inches. Checkyour rack; do not assume our dimension iscorrect for your rack. With the rack & pinion centered, you can setthe spindle alignment. Measure from theoutside of the frame to the inner edge of thetie rod hole in the steering arm. Set thisdimension to 8 5/8 inches. This will makethe spindle straight forward while you adjustthe tie rod length.#917701 Page 24
