Policy AW 15 - Community Amenity ProtectionBuffer ZonesIn order to protect the amenity of residential areas, no mineralextraction or activity directly related to the extraction of mineralswill be permitted within the defined settlement boundaries or otherestablished settlements. In accordance with the followingcommunity amenity protection buffer zones;a) No sand and gravel extraction or activity directly related to theextraction of sand and gravel will be permitted within 100metres of defined settlement boundaries or other establishedsettlements.5.87. For the purposes of this policy, “other established settlements” aresettlements of 10 dwellings and over, which do not have a definedsettlement boundary.5.88. In relation to groups of less than 10 dwellings and single dwellings, whilstthere will be a presumption against mineral activity in accordance withthe type of deposit and distances specified in parts a, b and c of this policy,consideration will be given through the <strong>Development</strong> Control process tothe impact of any mineral extraction on them.b) No sandstone or limestone extraction or activity directlyrelated to the extraction of sandstone or limestone will bepermitted within 200 metres of defined settlementboundaries, or other established settlements.c) No coal extraction or activity directly related to the extractionof coal will be permitted within 500 metres of definedsettlement boundaries, or other established settlements.62
