3.10.2 SET-PIECE MANUFACTURING SPECIFICATION<br />

3.10.2.1 The design <strong>of</strong> the set-pieces will be done by the Contractor, but must be approved by the <strong>City</strong><br />

<strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Electricity Services before manufacturing.<br />

3.10.2.2 Once the <strong>City</strong> <strong>of</strong> <strong>Cape</strong> <strong>Town</strong> Electricity Services approved the design, it must be placed on a<br />

transparency.<br />

3.10.2.3 The design is then placed on an overhead projector, shining it onto a removable white board.<br />

It must be ensured that the design that is displayed on the removable white board will fit in the<br />

described frame sizes.<br />

3.10.2.4 The frame sizes are as follow:<br />

� 2 x 2.1m<br />

� 2.5 x 2.1m<br />

� 3 x 2.1m<br />

� With the 2.1m on the vertical side.<br />

� 2 x 3m (Somerset-West)<br />

� With the 3m on the vertical side.<br />

3.10.2.5 While shining the design onto the removable white board, the design is traced with a black<br />

marker pen.<br />

3.10.2.6 Once the design is fully traced, the motif is then constructed according to the design on the<br />

removable white board.<br />

3.10.2.7 Metal round bars, square tubing, angle iron, expanding metal (mesh), flat bars and mild steel<br />

plates are used to manufacture the set-pieces according to the design.<br />

3.10.2.8 Metal round bars and flat bars are bent to fit the design.<br />

3.10.2.9 The metal bars, etc must be welded together by means <strong>of</strong> tig welding.<br />

3.10.2.10 Brackets must be made for the installation <strong>of</strong> set-pieces.<br />

3.10.2.11 Set-pieces are mounted on a catenary wire.<br />

3.10.2.<strong>12</strong> Brackets for set-pieces are made from line taps with nylon spacers between the line tap and<br />

the set-piece frame. This line tap must be bolted to the set-piece frame. Ensure that there<br />

are nine (9) line taps on the set-piece, three (3) on each catenary wire.<br />

3.10.2.13 When the set-piece frames are finished it must be first cleaned then spray painted<br />

according to the design.<br />

3.10.2.14 The set-pieces must first be sprayed with a primer. Ensure that two (2) layers <strong>of</strong> primer are<br />

sprayed on the set-pieces.<br />
