Sewers and drains: Information sheetsInformation sheets include hardcopy (paper) as well as computer/electronic documentation.Sewer Information SheetThe purpose of the Sewer Information Sheet is to ensure that site engineers and general foremen concerned with thesupervision of the work are fully acquainted with what is required. The sheet also forms a record for future valuationpurposes. The example sheet (see opposite) shows the minimum information required. Note that the direction of flowshould be fixed (left to right). The manhole numbers should be inserted accordingly and the direction of working; thisis usually in the direction opposite to the flow. (It is difficult to lay pipes downhill, especially those with collars).Other information needed for guidance and record purposes should be added by the site engineer, such as: distances of offset pegs (alternative pegs provided on left and right of centre-line) known existing crossing services (marked in red) distance from downstream manhole to existing services or other potential obstructions across the line ofthe trench (to nearest 0.5 m or better) approximate lines of existing services parallel or nearly parallel and close to the line of the new sewer for junctions: diameter, location (number of pipes from downstream MH), direction (draw short line to left orright of centre-line) and angle (flat, medium or steep).Site information sheetThe purpose of a Site Information Sheet is to provide the foreman/ganger with sufficient information for the job inhand. The information can be extracted from the relevant Sewer Information Sheet and any necessary notes added,for example, relating to trench support.Sketches should be drawn on a Site Information Sheet so that a record can be retained in the site office.CIRIA C70965
