Use aflashlight to check battery electrolyte level.Never check battery charge by placing a metalobject across the posts. Use a voltmeter orhydrometer.Always remove grounded NEGATIVE (–) batteryclamp first and replace it last.Exploding BatteryTS204 –UN–23AUG88WARNING: Battery posts, terminals, and relatedaccessories contain lead and lead compounds, chemicalsknown to the State of California to cause cancer andreproductive harm. Wash hands after handling.1. On regular batteries, check electrolyte level. Fill eachcell to bottom of filler neck with distilled water.NOTE: Low-maintenance or maintenance-free batteriesshould require little additional service. However,electrolyte level can be checked by cutting thecenter section of decal on dash-line, andremoving cell plugs. If necessary, add clean, softwater to bring level to bottom of filler neck.2. Keep batteries clean by wiping them with a damp cloth.Keep all connections clean and tight. Remove anycorrosion, and wash terminals with a solution of 1 partbaking soda and 4 parts water. Tighten all connectionssecurely.NOTE: Coat battery terminals and connectors with amixture of petroleum jelly and baking soda toretard corrosion.3. Keep battery fully charged, especially during coldweather. If a battery charger is used, turn charger offbefore connecting charger to battery(ies). AttachPOSITIVE (+) battery charger lead to POSITIVE (+)battery post.
