12PSI SpiesIntrigued, I contacted Dames and soon learned the storyof our military remote viewers. Dames said he and fellowArmy officer David Morehouse were in touch with a New Yorkliterary agent. Both officers said the story of RV was too importantto remain a military secret. They were willing to talk. And I was willing to listen. To me this was a journalist’sdream come true, for, if RV was fraudulent, it was a shamefulwaste of taxpayer money. If it proved true, it could well representa leap forward in human evolution. Either way, it was astory I knew I had to pursue. An agreement was reached: I would write about RV andits use by the military, and Dames and Morehouse wouldhelp supply facts, contacts, and information. In June 1993, Icontracted to publish a book through Harmony Books, a subsidiaryof Random House.Beginning with my contact with Dames in the summer of1992, I spent three years working on the remote viewingstory. During that time, my research showed that the RV phenomenonwas a reality that had been recorded throughouthistory. I was introduced to other military viewers, such as Lyn Buchanan and Mel Riley. I met members of theoversight committees that monitored the RV program, suchas Dr. Paul Tyler and Col. Alexander. I interviewed Dr. HalPuthoff and Ingo Swann, who, along with Russell Targ, werethe men most responsible for the development of RV.The work was arduous, particularly so because I wasdealing with a subject most people wanted no part of—notto mention that it involved a top-secret government program. Many sources refused to be interviewed, and others demandedanonymity. Hard facts were difficult to come by.
