66PSI SpiesAs Morehouse fumbled with his chair, Pettingale handedhim a stack of white, blank paper, placing one sheet in frontof him.“Here’s what we call an ‘Ingo pen,’” she said, handing hima black ball-point pen with a broad tip. He learned it wasnamed after the man who was instrumental in developingmuch of the methodology for remote viewing: Ingo Swann.“You’ll find a rheostat under the table,” she said, resumingher seat. “Adjust the lights any way you like.” Morehousedimmed the lights slightly, thinking, Under other circumstancesthis could be romantic. But here I am in a top secretmilitary unit in a dim room with a pretty woman and I don’thave a clue about what I’m supposed to do.It had been explained that he would be given a set ofcoordinates, just some numbers, and that he was supposedto draw an ideogram and then interpret it. An ideogramwas described as simply a mark on the paper thatrepresented the main concept of the target of his mentalsearch. He had learned these fundamentals already, but had noidea how it was all supposed to work.Placing his pen on the sheet of paper, Morehouse waitedexpectantly as Pettingale read out the coordinates. There wasa long period of silence. Morehouse stared at his hand. Nothinghappened. His mind was racing. Okay, something is supposed tohappen here. It’s supposed to move. But nothing happened.
