They seem to be sort ofin orbit, permanent orbit down through another layerfarther down which are like our clouds but movingfast....Tremendous wind. It’s colder here. Maybe it’sbecause there’s not a thermal inversion there....The atmosphereof Jupiter is very thick. 3Crystal rings? An atmosphere? These were ridiculousconcepts at the time. Even after the passage of Pioneer 10 inDecember 1973, there was not enough data to substantiateSwann’s descriptions.SRI scientist Hal Puthoff said, “In post-experiment discussionswith astronomers, the consensus was that the results ofour experiment were not at odds with either what was alreadyknown or what additional data were radioed back bythe flyby, but no definite evaluation could be made either.” 4Full confirmation of Swann’s descriptions did not comeuntil the Voyager 1 and 2 space probes in 1979.
