CQ\1!~~G~L3~\~~'L': irL: ASsELv3rL,YPlug-In Assembly Configuration 465As mentioned, the assembly can be configured for actuator (switching) mode or fordigital output mode. The paragraphs which follow show how to configure theassembly for these two modes and provide guidelines for relay contact protection.Actuator Mode ConfigurationPreviously, we showed that the assembly can be used in applications such as voltageswitching, alarm circuit actuation and matrix switching. To configure the assemblyfor actuator mode, refer to Figure 129 which shows the jumper connections on therelay card and the terminal card.Relay Contact ProtectionLoads which may cause relay contact arcing can cause contact failure unless contactprotection is provided. The nomograph in Figure 130 provides guidelines for R-Cnetwork design which is suitable for most loads. For the actuator assembly, youshould provide relay contact protection if the load to be switched is greater than 12volts at 65 mA.For example, if the load to be switched is 50 volts at 300 mA, from thenomograph R = 500 ohms and C = 0.009 pF (remember that for the actuatorassembly, E = 100 volts max). This R-C network should be mountedas close to the relay contacts as possible. Note from the nomograph thatfor 70 < E < 100 volts, R can be & 50% of nominal chart value.Artisan Technology Group - Quality Instrumentation ... Guaranteed | (888) 88-SOURCE | www.artisantg.com
