E-mail: taadagunodo@yahoo.comReceived: August 20, 2012 Accepted: November 4, 2012Abstract: Vertical Electrical Sounding method was used to map OyoState industrial estate Ogbomoso with a view to determining thegroundwater potential of the study area. Ten Vertical ElectricalSoundings (VES) were carried out across the area using theschlumberger electrode array configuration with current electrodeseparation (AB) varying from 130 m to 200 m. Nine outof the ten modeled curves were H-type where the remaining onewas KH-type. The geoelectric sections obtained from the soundingcurves revealed 3-layer and 4-layer earth models respectively.The models showed the subsurface layers categorizedinto the topsoil, weathered/clay, fractured layers and the freshbedrock. The weathered basement and fractured basement arethe aquifer types delineated for the area. Groundwater potentialevaluated from the maps (i.e. overburden thickness, anisotropiccoefficient, weathered layer isothickness, weathered layer isoresistivity,transverse resistance and bedrock relief maps) revealedthat the Southern and Eastern parts of the study area are the mostpromising region for borehole development. However, Northeasternregion of the study area can also be considered as fair forborehole development.Original scientific paper
