• • • • •RSVIEW SUPERVISORY EDITION USER’S GUIDENameType a name for the data server. This will appear in the Explorer in RSView Studio andthe RSView Administration Console. The name cannot include dashes or hyphens (–).DescriptionType a description for the data server. For example, it can describe the server’s location,the name of a contact person or number to contact in case of failure, or versioninformation.Computer that will run the OPC serverType the name of the computer on which the data server will run. To browse for the nameof the computer, click the Browse button.For stand-alone applications, in the OPC Data Server Properties dialog box, you can select fromtwo options to specify the computer that will host the OPC server: Server will be hosted on localcomputer, or Server will be hosted on remote computer. To browse for the programmatic ID, clickthe Browse button.To use RSLinx Classic as the OPC server, click the Browse button, and then click RSLinxRemote OPC Server.7 • PlaceholderFor distributed applications, always select RSLinx Remote OPC Server. Do not select RSLinxOPC Server.Setting up OPC data server redundancyTo minimize disruptions to clients if the primary data server fails, set up a redundant dataserver. This is only available for distributed applications.In RSView, the redundant server is called the secondary server. In the Redundancy tab,specify the name of the computer that will host the secondary data server, and specifywhether RSView should continue using the secondary data server or switch back to theprimary data server when it becomes available again.For a stand-alone application, there is no Redundancy tab in the OPC Data Server Propertiesdialog box. Stand-alone applications do not support data server redundancy.Provide redundancy using a secondary serverSelect this check box to enable data server redundancy. Clear this check box to disabledata server redundancy.7-11
