By default, system activity is logged locallyon each computer.• message routing. To log system activity to a central, ODBC-compliant database, set up the database,and then set up the ODBC Database destination in the FactoryTalk Diagnostics Setuptool.Key conceptsFor details about the schema for the ODBC database, see Appendix C, ODBCdatabase schemas.DestinationsFactoryTalk Diagnostics messages can be sent to various destinations, including themessage log on the local computer, an ODBC-compliant database, and the DiagnosticsList at the bottom of the window in <strong>RSView</strong> Studio or the <strong>RSView</strong> SE client. Each ofthese destinations has features or behavior you can set up.The available destinations might vary, depending on which Rockwell Software products you haveinstalled on the computer.For example, <strong>RSView</strong> adds the ODBC Database and Diagnostics List destinations toFactoryTalk Diagnostics. If <strong>RSView</strong> is not installed on the computer, these destinations are notavailable in FactoryTalk Diagnostics.Setting up redundancy for Diagnostics logsYou can set up redundancy for Diagnostics logs by logging to an ODBC-compliantdatabase, and setting up a copy of the database on another computer, that will act as abackup if communications to the primary database are interrupted.By default, all system activity is logged locally on each computer. You can use the locallog to buffer information, if communications with the ODBC-compliant database are lost.Message routingYou can decide which destinations receive messages of which severity, and for whichaudience. This ensures that information is provided to the appropriate person and place.12-2
