13 • USING DATA LOGGING• • • • •Editing a data log modelYou can edit a model during development or run time, using either <strong>RSView</strong> Studio or the<strong>RSView</strong> Administration Console .If you change a model at run time, the changes will not take effect until you stop datalogging and then restart it.13 • PlaceholderIf a tag that you delete from a data log model is used in a trend object, be sure to remove allreferences to the deleted tag from the trend.Changing log paths using the <strong>RSView</strong> Administration ConsoleYou can change the log paths after an application has been deployed by using the <strong>RSView</strong>Administration Console (you don’t need to use <strong>RSView</strong> Studio). You can change theprimary and secondary paths for file sets, and the backup path for ODBC data log models.You cannot change the ODBC database using the Administration Console.Working with ODBC data sourcesUsing an existing ODBC data sourceYou can log data to an existing ODBC data source, but its tables must contain fields thatare formatted for the <strong>RSView</strong> data log.There are two ways to prepare tables for data logging to an existing database:• Set up the <strong>RSView</strong> data log fields in the existing ODBC tables before setting up adata log model.• Create new tables automatically or manually in the existing database using the DataLog Models dialog box.To use the tables in an existing ODBC data source1. Add fields for the data log data to the tables in the ODBC database.The section “Data log tables” on page C-4 describes the order and type of fieldsneeded to log data to an ODBC database. Edit the tables as described in thedocumentation for the ODBC database you are using.2. Set up a data log model, as described in Help. Specify the existing ODBC database asthe ODBC Data Source, and then specify the tables you edited.13-7
