THE PLACE OF OCCULTISM IN SPIRITUAL LIFE: II 97The Master as arelaying stationbe engaged at that moment. As he is one witheternity, the Master is beyond time and alllimitations of time; as he is also interested in thespiritual upliftment of humanity, he assumes many of thelimitations of time and his work can be helped by the voluntary cooperationof his disciples. The Master feeds upon the love of hisdisciples and utilises the spiritual forces released by them for hisuniversal work. In this way the Master is like the relaying stationwhich receives a song only in order to broadcast it to the world atlarge. To love the Master is to love all, not merely symbolically butactually; for what the Master receives on the subtle planes hespiritualises and distributes. Thus he not only strengthens thepersonal links which the disciples may have with him but alsogives them the privilege of sharing his divine work.By infinite ways, the Master tries to draw the aspirant intohis own being so that he may get disentangled from the mazes ofthe universe and come to desire God. This longing for God isThe internal eyepresent in the aspirant from the very beginning,but the Master makes this primary longing moreintense and articulate by opening the internal eye of the aspirant.When the internal eye is opened God, who is the object of searchand longing, is actually sighted. As the gaze of the soul is turnedinward and fixed upon the supreme reality, the desire to establishunion with it becomes much more ardent than when the soul isgroping for God through mere speculation or imagination. Whenthe time is ripe the Master can open this internal eye in less than asecond.Ultimately the aspirant has to realise that God is the onlyReality and that he is really one with God.
