The different types of genuine meditation allOne type of meditationmay interferewith anotherdwell upon aspects of life which are equallytrue; but depending upon the psychic state ofthe individual, the assimilation of a certaintruth of life is often more urgently necessarythan the assimilation of some other truths of life. Therefore theMasters never prescribe the same form of meditation to all, butgive specific instructions according to the individual needs of theaspirant.The type of meditation necessary in a particular situationoften cannot be correctly ascertained by the aspirant forhimself. The aspirant can get addicted to one type of medi-Need for specificinstructions from theMastertation so exclusively that he finds itdifficult to get out of the groove which hasbeen cut into his mind by the type ofmeditation he has been practising. Hefails to see the importance of any other type of meditation and isnot drawn by it. Of course the aspirant himself may come to feelhis own deficiency along a particular line, but just as manymedicines are disagreeable to the patient, so the types ofmeditation that are really indicated in a specific situation oftenseem distasteful to the aspirant, and he is disinclined to take tothem. The help and advice of the Master are indispensable on thispoint. The insight which the Master has into the deeper and realspiritual needs of the aspirant is infinitely greater than the insightwhich the aspirant can hope to have into himself. Specificinstructions from the Master supply the necessary corrective forthe neglected aspects of personality.Although the aspirant may start with an initial aversion tothe type of meditation he needs, he becomes interested in it whenhe sees its real value and purpose.
