Course DescriptionsEDUC882 • Directed Study(EDAD)4 creditsAn opportunity to fulfill individual educational objectives in a specific area ofstudy. May consist of independent reading and/or research, or travel with relatedstudy. Designed in cooperation with the program director and the cohort advisor.Register for this course during the semester when the directed study is to becompleted. The directed study is for learners completing the Ed.D. degree andnot seeking license. The Directed Study form can be found at blink.bethel.edu/.Log in and select the Forms channel > <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> Programs > <strong>Graduate</strong>Students > Directed Study.EDUC886 • K–12 Principal Internship(EDAD)4 creditsA school-based experience of at least 320 hours (200 hours for those already certifiedas elementary or secondary principals and seeking K–12 license) scheduledduring the second or third year of the program. The placement is under the jointsupervision of a <strong>Bethel</strong> faculty member and an onsite mentor. This internship maybe paid or unpaid, depending on the policies of the host district. Direct experiencein administrative duties is required, and a synthesis of learning between theacademic program and administrative needs of the host district is accomplished.Note: a separate internship is required for the K–12 principal and superintendentlicense. Register for this course during the semester in which the internship is tobe completed. Graded on an S/U basis.EDUC887 • Superintendent Internship(EDAD)4 creditsA school-based experience of at least 320 hours scheduled during the second orthird year of the program. The placement is under the joint supervision of a <strong>Bethel</strong>faculty member and an onsite mentor. This internship may be paid or unpaid,depending on the policies of the host district. Internship(EDAD)4 creditsLearners will demonstrate effective instructional and classroom management strategies,insightful interpersonal communications, and authentic assessment toolswhile serving as a classroom teaching intern at the postsecondary level under thesupervision of a university supervisor and an onsite mentor. A portfolio reflectingboth postsecondary teaching and leadership with the K–12 educational level willbe developed. This course will be co-scheduled with COMM724. Prerequisite:Approval of the Ed.D. program director required.107
