Specialized assisting technology.EDUC609 • Lab Safety Workshop0 creditsHigh standards of safety and chemical hygiene are required to make the sciencelaboratory a safe learning environment. Review of the standards and federal/stateguidelines pertaining to safety and hygiene in the classroom laboratory. Preparationfor ACSC certification. Included are a workshop and several follow-uponline assignments. (This class may be waived for science majors with extensivelab experience and documented lab safety training.) Lab fee: $25. Avariety of expository texts found across content areas will be examined. Examinationof behaviors of adolescent readers and instructional strategies to increasecomprehension and understanding of texts. Prerequisites: EDUC600, EDUC601,EDUC602, EDUC607.EDUC613 • Social Issues and Alternative Methodsin Special Education(EDUG, SPEG)2 creditsFocus is on current social issues affecting student academic and social progress,and alternative methods and strategies to address students’ complex needs. Issuessuch as child abuse, domestic violence, poverty, addictions, and multiculturalconsiderations are researched and discussed. Alternative methods are exploredand practiced, such as cognitive behavior therapy, prayer, art and play techniques,biofeedback, nutrition, stress management, therapeutic holding, and others.89
