Academic Programs and DisciplinesNursingNursing Programs (M.A., Certificate)The M.A. in Nursing and the Certificate in Nursing Education are offered throughthe Department of Nursing and administered through the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>.The Department of Nursing at <strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong> has three primary goals:• To prepare nurses with skills in critical thinking with the ability to functionin both structured and unstructured professional nursing positions, and withthe background necessary for advanced education.• To prepare learners for lifelong learning with a theoretical foundation basedon Judeo-Christian principles, and the liberal arts and sciences.• To express Christian values within the nursing profession through excellencein professional practice, scholarly endeavors, and community service.<strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong> seeks applicants who are visionary, articulate, and can thinkabstractly. These applicants will be nurses who are willing to grow personally aswell as professionally.Progression and graduation: To progress in the program and graduate, the learnermust meet <strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong> requirements for academic progress. Further detailson departmental policies and procedures are described in the Nursing ProgramStudent Handbook.M.A. in NursingMajor in Nursing (NURG)The master’s program comprises a series of core courses plus the completion ofone concentration in Nursing and Healthcare Leadership or Nursing Education.The program prepares nurse leaders who will effect change at a systems level.Program Outcomes<strong>Bethel</strong> prepares nurses who, in advanced nursing roles, will be able to:1. Provide leadership in a variety of systems to promote the health of individualsand communities.2. Synthesize knowledge and theories of leadership, nursing, and other disciplinesto advance the nursing profession.3.
