Academic Information• Facilitating Academic Dishonesty: Knowingly helping or attempting to helpanother violate any provision of this code. Example: working together on atake-home exam or other individual assignment, etc.• Unfair Advantage: Attempting to gain unauthorized advantage over fellowstudents in an academic exercise. Examples: gaining or providing unauthorizedaccess to examination materials (either past or present); obstructing orinterfering with another student’s efforts in an academic exercise; lying abouta need for an extension for an exam or paper; continuing to write even whentime is up during an exam; destroying, hiding, removing, or keeping librarymaterials, etc.• Computer Crimes: Damaging or modifying computer programs withoutpermission. Examples: software piracy; hacking; constructing viruses; knowinglyintroducing viruses into a system; copying programs and data belongingto others, etc.Academic AppealsAppeals related to academic dismissal are made to the <strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong> AcademicAppeals Committee. Consult the academic services manager for procedures. Allother academic appeals (course grades, graduation, status in programs, academicdishonesty, decisions of the registrar in applying academic policies, complaintsabout course content or procedures, etc.) are handled in the following manner:1. Within three weeks following the decision or incident in question, the studentwill seek to resolve the matter first with the course instructor, or with the partydirectly responsible for the decision, and then with the program director or academicdepartment chairperson (hereafter referred to as the program director).2. If, after talking with the instructor and the program director, the student stillthinks he or she is being treated unfairly or not in accordance with announcedacademic policies, the student may appeal in writing to the dean of the Collegeof Adult & Professional Studies/<strong>Graduate</strong> <strong>School</strong>. This written appeal mustbe received within three weeks after the decision or incident in question.Registration in Other InstitutionsStudents who are regularly registered at <strong>Bethel</strong> <strong>University</strong> may take courses atother regionally accredited institutions for transfer credit if they have prior consentof the program director and the academic services manager. Only graduate-levelcourses with a C grade or better will be accepted in transfer.36
